Erick Coomes has demonstrated that he is a quintessential music
producer. After studying under trusted hit-makers such as Quincy Jones, Dr Dre, Kanye West, DJ
Quik and Tedy Riley working as a writer, Co- producer and
Bass/Guitarist, he formed his own production company. Erick’s expressive
musical manifestation exhibits a solid, authoritative groove and an
immense tone. Erick has developed phenomenal technique that he uses
sparingly to promote his concept that the sound of the whole group is
paramount to any individual’s performance.
Erick Coomes was born in Huntington Beach, California on June 14, 1976
into a musical family. His father is a record producer, bandleader and
singer/songwriter and his older brother Tyler (Tycoon)
has focused his talent on Producing, the drum set and drum programming.
Therefore, Erick was constantly involved with music as a child and
virtually grew up in a studio. At a remarkably young age, Erick began experimenting
with vocals, drums and the piano. His parents recognized that he displayed
a depth of creativity that is rare for such a young individual and they
educated and encouraged his musicality. Erick’s musical interests
continued to expand and by ten years old he began formal saxophone lessons.
Two years later, he acquired a strong fascination with the guitar and began
taking lessons on the guitar as well. Erick’s musical foundation was
particularly impressive and his enthusiasm for music never ceased to
But it wasn’t until he started playing the bass at fifteen years old
that he had truly found his favorite instrument. Erick had such
distinct promise on the bass that John Patitucci, the world-renowned
bass virtuoso, accepted him as a private student. Erick continued his
education by attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music where
he excelled in all his classes and graduated in 1998 with a Bachelors
Degree in Music Business and Song-writing.
